About & Methodology
WheelYields tracks the "wheel" options strategy — selling cash-secured puts, and covered calls once assigned — across ~150 of the most actively optioned US stocks and ETFs.
How numbers are calculated
- Data: delayed end-of-day option chains and prices from Yahoo Finance (via the open-source yfinance library), refreshed nightly.
- Expiry: the first listed expiration 30–45 days to expiry (DTE).
- Strike: the strike whose Black-Scholes delta (from Yahoo's implied volatility, r=0) is nearest 0.30 in absolute value.
- Premium: bid/ask midpoint (last trade if no two-sided quote).
- CSP yield = premium ÷ strike. CC yield = premium ÷ stock price. Annualized = yield × 365 ÷ DTE (simple, not compounded).
- Earnings: next earnings date per Yahoo; flagged when it falls before expiry.
Limitations
Delayed data can be stale or wrong; spreads may be wide; Yahoo IV can be noisy; annualized figures assume repeating the trade, which is not guaranteed. Always check live quotes with your broker.
